GRADES OF CONCRETE?

Different Grades of Concrete like M1O, M20, M25, and M30 denote concrete models according to their difference in strengths.

Before building a house, once the concept drawings are finalized with Hired Architects’ help and then get detailed structural drawings from the structural engineer.

A structural engineer suggests What Grades of cement should be used for particular works such as Foundation, Slabs, Beams, Columns, Projections, etc.

The M describes the Mix design of concrete while the strength digits in N/mm2. Therefore concrete is known for its compressive strength.

There are different Grades of concrete such as M10 M15 M20 M25 M30 etc the usage of right concrete grades depends on advice given by the Structural engineer.

Suppose one is planning to build a house and know the current house construction cost or estimate. One can use our “ Construction Cost Calculator ” tool, which helps you calculate your house estimate.

Higher grade concrete types should be used in an environment with severe and extreme conditions, unlike the lower grades of concrete.

THE MIX IS THE REPRESENTATIONS OF INGREDIENT PROPORTIONS:

  • Sand.
  • Cement.
  • Fine aggregate.
  • Coarse aggregate.

TYPES OF CONCRETE ARE CLASSIFIED MAINLY INTO FOUR CATEGORIES:

  • Lean concrete.
  • Ordinary grade.
  • Standard grade.
  • High strength concrete.

Amount of water needed for mixing concrete?

Water/Cement ratio is a ratio of the weight of water to weight cement. It changes based on the desired workability.

Quantity of water needed per 50kg bag of cement in liters. (IS 456)

GRADE WATER (L)
M 5 60
M 7.5 45
M 10 34
M 15 32
M 20 30

Calculation of weight of sand and aggregate per bag of Cement?

IS456 Codebook recommends the following quantities of total aggregate per 50kg of cement to produce nominal mix concrete.

GRADE TOTAL(F.A + C.A)
M 5 800 kg
M 7.5 625 kg
M 10 480 kg
M 15 330 kg
M 20 250 kg

Note: General ratio of fine aggregate to coarse aggregate is 1:2. The ratio can be adjusted between 1:1.5 to 1:2.5 based on the grading of fine aggregate and coarse aggregate size.  Choose water from the above table.

For M20 Grade Concrete

Sand is confirmed to Zone II(average grading).  From the above table, we know the 250kg of total dry aggregate is needed.

Sand per 50 kg bag = (1 / (1+2)) x 250 kg
=83 kg ~ 85 kg
Aggregateper 50 kg bag = (2 / (1+2)) x 250 kg
= 166 kg ~ 165 kg

Note: Always use dry river sand because moisture in the sand may increase its weight, mess up the water-cement ratio and cause bulking of sand.

CEMENT SAND  AGGREGATE
per bag(50kg) 85 kg  165 kg

Sand and Aggregate per bag of cement – M5, M7.5, M10, M15, M20

Quantities are calculated according to the above procedure with a fine to a coarse aggregate ratio of 1:2.

Grade Total Agg. Cement Sand Gravel
M5 800kg 1 bag 270kg 530kg
M7.5 625kg 1 bag 210kg 415kg
M10 480kg 1 bag 160kg 320kg
M15 330kg 1 bag 110kg 220kg
M20 250kg 1 bag 85kg 165kg

Quantities derived through the nominal mix method and design mix method are different from each other. From experimentation, we find out that M15 grade concrete, batched through the nominal mix method, has equivalent quantities of materials as M20 grade concrete batched by the design mix method.

  • Grade of concrete M20 can get used as an RCC. Reinforced Cement Concrete.
  • M20 works perfectly for the construction of internal floor slabs, columns, beams, and footing.
  • M20 grade concrete gets also used for mild exposure.
  • M20 gets popularly used on domestic floors and foundations where the structure’s average weight may be lighter.
  • M20 grade concrete is ideal for high rising buildings since the more senior the concrete a grade has, the more useful it is to raise buildings.
  • The degree of concrete M20 has an IS 45-2000, which has designated the whole concrete mix to construct items such as footings entirely.

WHAT IS M25 GRADE CONCRETE?

M25 Grade concrete Properties usage and application of M25 grade
M25 grade concrete, unlike M15 and M20, is a standard type of grade concrete.M25 grade concrete is a higher grade concrete than M20.

PROPERTIES OF THE M25 GRADE CONCRETE:

M25 is a mixture composed of cement, fine aggregates and coarse aggregates with a ratio of 1:1:2 is 1cement, one sand, and two aggregates.

The water-cement rate should get maintained between o.4 and 0.6.

The grade M25 grade concrete has a compressive strength of 25n/mm2 within 28days of curing.

USAGE AND APPLICATION OF M25 GRADE CONCRETE:

  • M25 grade concrete gets also used as an RCC, the Reinforced cement concrete.
  • M25 is used majorly during the construction of slabs, columns, footing, or beams.
  • M25 application is also suitable for use in any exposed work, where one doesn’t need to cover the concrete mixture for later finishing.
  • M25 grade concrete is applicable for use in all areas of construction.
  • The grade concrete M25 is multipurpose and can get used for constructing any foundation.
  • The grade concrete of M25 is usually preferred when constructor engineers what to high rise a building, for instance, a 3 to 4 story building, to resist the higher load range of load.
  • Many constructors prefer to use M25 grade concrete for structures when casting various structural elements.
  • M25 can also be a good suggestion when constructors want to low rise building’s main structures.

WHAT IS M30 GRADE CONCRETE?
